We design and apply systems to meet project-specific fire ratings while aligning with manufacturer-tested data and UK standards.
- Ratings: 30, 60, 90, 120+ minutes to BS 476 and EN 13381 test standards.
- Inputs required: steel sizes, Hp/A (section factor), loading and fire exposure (cellulosic/hydrocarbon where applicable).
- Dry film thickness (DFT) derived from manufacturer tables or software based on the governing worst-case Hp/A and load.
- Compatible primers verified; any corrosion protection or galvanizing treated per manufacturer guidance.
- We produce a clear scope and schedule showing each member’s required DFT and topcoat system.
Our QA system ensures the specified thickness is achieved consistently and verifiably.
- Wet Film Thickness (WFT) checks per pass using notched gauges; target WFT calculated from solids content.
- Dry Film Thickness (DFT) verification using calibrated magnetic induction gauges; pre- and post-topcoat readings.
- Test frequency: minimum 1 per 10 m² per coat or as per spec; higher frequency on complex sections.
- Hold points for inspector and manufacturer technical rep sign-off.
- Remedials: targeted build coats or localized strip and re-apply if out of tolerance.
- Traceable logs with member ID, location, date, ambient conditions, applicator and readings.
We control surface prep and environment to ensure performance and finish.
- Preparation: primer compatibility confirmed; surfaces cleaned to remove oil, dust and salts.
- Application: airless spray as default; brush/roller for detail work and edges.
- Environmental controls: substrate/air temperature and RH within manufacturer limits; dew point monitored.
- Curing: staged build with minimum recoat times; forced ventilation/heating where required.
- Sequencing: coordinate with trades to avoid damage and ensure access; protection between coats.
- Access and safety: method statements and RAMS; IPAF/PASMA-certified operatives.
Achieve the required durability and appearance with compatible finishing systems.
- Approved topcoats to manufacturer guidance, including durability categories for internal/external environments.
- Colour: full RAL/BS ranges available; gloss, satin or matt finishes to suit design intent.
- UV and moisture resistance options for exposed steel.
- Maintenance: touch-up and redecoration intervals included in O&M manuals.
- Sample panels and mock-ups available for client approval.
We provide a complete compliance pack so you can sign off with confidence.
- DFT readings logs and location plans.
- WFT spot-check records per coat.
- Gauge calibration certificates.
- Manufacturer certificate of conformity / project-specific statement.
- As-built photos and marked-up drawings.
- Method statements, product datasheets and O&M manuals.

What fire ratings can you achieve?
30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes on structural steel, subject to member size and section factor.
Which standards do you work to?
We follow manufacturer-tested data in line with BS 476 and EN 13381. Project ITPs and QA logs are included.
How do you verify thickness?
WFT checks during application and DFT readings after cure using calibrated gauges, recorded against member IDs.
Will a topcoat affect performance?
We select compatible topcoats approved by the intumescent manufacturer to maintain rating and durability.
What do you need to price?
Steel schedules, drawings, any existing primer details, required fire rating and programme constraints.
How quickly can you mobilise?
Typically 5–10 working days from order, subject to survey and material lead times.
Send us your drawings and steel schedules. We’ll confirm the specification, programme and provide a fixed proposal with a QA plan.
- What to include: steel schedules, required fire rating, primer details, site conditions.
- Response: outline within 24–48 hours.
- Coverage: London and the South East.
